Terms of Use

1. About the Service

The Service is the official tournament app of the International Backgammon Federation (“IBF”). It lets you join federations and clubs, register for tournaments and play live backgammon matches against other players. The Service is developed, published and operated by:

2. Your account

• You must be at least 16 years old to create an account and use the Service.
• You may have only one account. Accounts are personal: do not share your account, sell it or let anyone else play on it.
• Give accurate information when you sign up and keep your e-mail address up to date so that we can reach you.
• Keep your password confidential. You are responsible for activity on your account unless it happened because of our fault. Tell us at support@i-bg-federation.com straight away if you think someone else has access to it.

You can delete your account at any time — see Delete your account.

3. Free service, no stakes

The Service is free to download and use and has no in-app purchases. The Service does not involve betting or wagering, and you cannot pay money to enter matches or tournaments in the app.

Any in-game virtual coins, points or ratings shown in the app are used only to run the game and tournaments. They have no monetary value, cannot be bought, sold, transferred, exchanged for money or anything of value, or withdrawn, and may be adjusted or reset by us, for example to correct errors or after a breach of these Terms.

4. Clubs and tournaments

• Tournaments in the app are organised by the IBF and by the federations and clubs that use the Service (“organisers”). Each tournament has its own conditions — start time, number of places, format, time bank, doubling rules and prize places — shown on its Details tab. By registering you accept those conditions.
• Clubs decide whether to accept your application to join. Organisers may limit who can register for their tournaments.
• Dice are rolled on our servers and every match is recorded. If you lose connection, the match clock keeps running; reconnect as soon as possible. Our server records are the reference for the moves and the result of a match.
• Any prizes, titles or ranking points for a tournament are set and awarded by its organiser under its own rules, not by us. Questions about prizes should be addressed to the organiser.
• If you believe a result is wrong, contact us within 7 days of the match with your user ID, the tournament and the approximate time. We will review the match record together with the organiser, whose decision on the result is final within the Service.

5. Fair play and conduct

When you use the Service, you must not:

• use backgammon bots, analysis engines, rollout tools or help from another person while a match is in progress;
• create or use more than one account, play on someone else's account, or let someone else play on yours;
• collude with other players, deliberately lose matches or otherwise manipulate results, ratings or brackets;
• exploit bugs or errors — please report them to us instead;
• use automated scripts, modified clients, or copy, decompile, reverse-engineer or interfere with the app, our servers or their security, except where the law expressly allows it;
• harass, threaten or insult other players, or impersonate another person, the IBF, an organiser or us;
• use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in breach of the rules of the IBF or of a tournament.

6. Your nickname and avatar

Your nickname, profile photo and match results are visible to other users (see section 4 of the Privacy Policy). Your nickname and avatar must not be offensive, sexual, hateful or misleading, must not contain advertising, and must not infringe anyone else's rights. You keep the rights to the photo you upload and give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store and display it in the Service for as long as it is in your profile. We may remove or replace a nickname or avatar that breaks these rules.

7. Licence and intellectual property

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, in line with these Terms and the rules of the store you downloaded it from.

The app, the website and their software, design, graphics and texts belong to us or our licensors. The name “International Backgammon Federation”, “IBF” and the IBF logo belong to the International Backgammon Federation and are used with its permission. These Terms do not give you any right to use these names, logos or materials outside the Service.

8. Suspension and termination

If you breach these Terms, the rules of the IBF or of a tournament, we may, depending on how serious the breach is, issue a warning, remove content, remove you from a tournament, annul affected results, or suspend or close your account. Where possible we will tell you the reason and give you the opportunity to respond by e-mail. We may act immediately where this is needed to protect other players, the integrity of a tournament or the Service.

You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. Sections 3, 7, 10 and 12 continue to apply after your account is closed.

9. Availability and changes to the Service

We work to keep the Service running, but it may occasionally be unavailable, for example during maintenance, updates or events outside our control. We may change, add or remove features. If we decide to stop providing the Service altogether, we will give reasonable notice in the app or on this website. Some features may require the latest version of the app.

10. Warranties and liability

The Service is provided free of charge “as is” and “as available”. To the extent permitted by law, we do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any tournament will take place as scheduled.

We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss caused by events outside our reasonable control, or for decisions of tournament organisers. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, or any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law, including your statutory rights as a consumer.

11. App Store and Google Play

If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, the terms of that store also apply to your download and use of the app. If you downloaded it from the App Store, you and we also agree that:

• these Terms are between you and us only, not with Apple Inc. (“Apple”), and we, not Apple, are solely responsible for the app and its content;
• your licence to use the app is limited to use on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions;
• Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app — please contact us for support;
• to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no warranty obligation with respect to the app; if the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any;
• we, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app or your use of it, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws;
• in the event of a third-party claim that the app or your use of it infringes that third party's intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim;
• you confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated by the U.S. Government as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties;
• you must comply with applicable third-party terms, such as your mobile carrier's terms, when using the app;
• Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, once you accept them, Apple will have the right to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by Romanian law. If you are a consumer living in another country, you also keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the law of your country of residence. Please contact us first at support@i-bg-federation.com — most issues can be solved quickly that way. If we cannot resolve a dispute, it will be decided by the competent courts of Bucharest, Romania, without prejudice to your right as a consumer to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence.

13. Changes and contact

We may update these Terms when the Service or the law changes. We will publish the new version on this page with a new effective date and, for significant changes, notify you in the app or by e-mail before they take effect. If you continue to use the Service after the changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms; if you do not agree, you can delete your account.
